The Top 100 Contemporary Jazz Songs – #96 | Bobby Lyle – Ivory Dreams

Whats Happening Jazz Lovers…

This one was a ‘selective’ choice, not chosen because it was a big Billboard Singles hit or blazed the charts throughout the globe back in the day.  Considering how big of a fan I am of legendary contemporary jazz pianist Bobby Lyle‘s work, I came to a decision to add the title track from stellar 1989 album “Ivory Dreams” (Atlantic Records).

The 6:39 long dynamic, smooth flowing track stayed in my rotation for many years back in late ’89-early to mid 90’s. From start to finish, the overall arrangement of the composition was more than a masterpiece to my ears. The personnel involved: Nathan East (Bass), Ndugu Chancler (Drums), Paul Jackson Jr. (Guitar), Michael Smith (Percussion), Kirk Whalum (Saxophone) and of course, Bobby Lyle (Keyboards) gave “Ivory Dreams” top notch production, inside and out. The way Mr. Whalum swayed the sax throughout the single stayed everlasting in my mindset whenever I reached into my cabinet to grab something deep to remember about great contemporary jazz music.

Bobby Lyle, otherwise known throughout the music circuit & circles as the one and only “The Genie,” long lasting legacy and discography will always be forefront in all of jazz music and not forgotten. Please do some research and pull up his website for more additional music, bio, concert listings, content and more. I am more than honored to have shared “Ivory Dreams” with you T.U.M.S. readers as part of my Top #100 collection. There’s more tracks from Mr. Lyle to consider for the list, so stick around. I’ll be right back!
