Guitarist Garry Percell Releases Rendition of Classic R&B Hit “Love Ballad”
Garry Percell is a Billboard-charting guitarist whose sound lives at the intersection of soul, sophistication, and storytelling. With more than 25 years of experience, he has cultivated a style that moves effortlessly between electric and acoustic guitar—rooted in R&B, jazz, and blues, yet unmistakably his own.
A dynamic presence on both stage and in the studio, Percell has built a reputation as a trusted collaborator, producer, and creative consultant. His touring credits include performances with the Betty Davis Band “Funk House,” Todd Curry, and Focus, while his musical foundation draws inspiration from the timeless influence of Grammy Award–Winning Artist General Johnson and Chairman of the Board.
His breakout moment in contemporary jazz arrived with the Billboard-charting single “Don’t Stop,” featuring saxophonist Marcus Anderson and produced by Adam Hawley—a release that introduced his artistry to a wider audience and cemented his place within the genre.
Beyond the jazz and R&B space, Percell’s roots run deep in gospel. He has shared the stage with celebrated artists such as Richard Smallwood, Luther Barnes, and Lee Williams & The QC’s, bringing a sense of authenticity and emotional depth to every performance.
Committed to building a lasting musical legacy, Percell founded and launched the Upward Bound Music Group label—an independent platform designed to create, produce, and release music on his own terms. In 2019, he unveiled his label with a string of popular singles: “Every Time I Close My Eyes,” “Don’t Stop,” “Smooth Strut,” “Reaction,” and a soulful reimagining of the R&B classic “Going in Circles,” featuring Tony Terry, produced by Adam Hawley.
After stepping away from music for two years following a period of personal loss, Percell returns to contemporary jazz in 2026 with renewed passion and purpose. His latest release, a stirring rendition of the 1976 #1 R&B Hit Single by L.T.D. “Love Ballad,” written by Skip Scarborough marks both a powerful comeback and a continuation of his evolving musical journey. Master musical storyteller, Grammy-Nominated Chris “Big Dog” Davis was enlisted as producer of this iconic R&B classic.
For Garry Percell, the mission remains clear: to create music that connects, endures, and speaks to the heart— one note at a time.
