Bobby “Blue” Bland Cover “Ain’t No Love”
From His Forthcoming Album Due in Early 2026
A new generation is creating new iterations of classic soul music, but few artists have generated such immediate excitement as Alex Harris. His voice—a gritty, full-throated sound reminiscent of soul music legends, coupled with a radiant spirit and a completely natural authenticity– is winning the hearts and minds of all who see him. Even at this early stage he has already performed for President Biden and President Obama’s Inaugural Galas. Steve Cropper, who as musician, songwriter and producer has worked with legendary Memphis soul greats, gave Alex his “thumbs up” after a joint writing session in Nashville. Add to this Alex Harris’ intriguing life story and multi-faceted achievements as musical artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, and you have a very special artist.
Harris’ Shanachie debut Back To Us (released April 2024), recorded-in-Nashville is a stunning 11-song collection featuring sparkling originals and a handful of impressive covers with special guests Monophonics, Ruby Amanfu and Sam Ashworth. It is a major statement of the enduring relevance of classic R&B in a contemporary context. Harris shares, “My calling and mission are to utilize my God-given gift of music to inspire humanity. I believe the shared experience of the Gospel Church is part of the ‘secret ingredient’ to authentic soul music. The essence of this album is imbued with the intention to uplift, inspire, and heal. It’s a celebration of life and the myriad emotions we all experience.”
Born in Manchester, Georgia (population 2500), Alex Harris is one of eight children born to Pentecostal Pastor and schoolteacher Reverend James Harris and Dr. Carolyn Harris, a dedicated educator. The focus of the family was faith and education with little contact with the secular world. The only TV Alex watched was a recorded show his god-brother recorded weekly, Bet’s “Bobby Jones Gospel Show.” Harris holds a bachelor’s in arts in human services and psychology and a master’s in theology and social work. He did an extended graduate study in adolescent counseling at Harvard University, and holds a doctorate in organizational leadership at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Alex’s entrepreneurial spirit combined with a philanthropic purpose, led him to found a non-profit dedicated to creating curriculum and programming for youth in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he resides. Arts Conservatory for Teens is dedicated to serving under-served and at-risk communities, using the arts as a catalyst to prepare students for high school graduation, higher education, and the workforce. The ambitious program has served over 13,000 young people to date.
