INITIAL CHAMELEON/ISLAND RECORDS RELEASE BY SINGER-SONGWRITER NIKKI WILLIAMSNEW YORK, Sept. 28, 2011
/PRNewswire/ — Continuing to expand its creative investments, Island
Def Jam, a division of Universal Music Group, has joined with
multi-talented A&R executive and producer Breyon Prescott (Jamie Foxx, Angie Stone,
Brandy) to launch his Chameleon Entertainment at the company.
Moreover, Mr. Prescott will also serve as an exclusive A&R
Consultant for Def Jam Recordings. Both announcements were made today
by Barry Weiss, Chairman & CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam Motown, to whom Mr. Prescott will report.
The first signing to Chameleon Entertainment/Island Records is the debut album from gifted singer-songwriter Nikki Williams,
who wrote “Fly Away” for the hit movie Country Strong. Ms. Williams is
a phenomenal, 22-year-old South-African whose raspy voice and
soul-stirring songwriting has already created anticipation for her 2012
debut. Ms. Williams also co-wrote “Like My Mother Does,” which was
performed by 2011 American Idol finalist Laura Alaina. The goal for Nikki is worldwide pop success.
“Breyon
is an experienced, smart and effective talent magnet, song maven and
creative force,” said Mr. Weiss. “Having had success for years on the
outside, we’re excited to bring him inside at Def Jam so we can all go
to the next level together. I really look forward to working closely
with him in this effort.”
“I am thrilled to bring Nikki Williams
and my company to Island Def Jam,” said Mr. Prescott. “I’m excited to
be joining the best A&R team in the business and to be working
alongside Lucian, Barry, Steve Bartels and Karen Kwak as we discover and develop the next generation of superstars.”
Mr.
Prescott has had a very successful career in music over the past
decade, including numerous #1, Grammy Award-winning singles and serving
as A&R executive, producer and executive producer on multi-platinum
projects with Jamie Foxx, Kanye, Drake, Angie Stone, and Brandy to name a few.
