Roy Ayers Delfonic Reworked #1

Release Date : 29.08.25

BBE Music proudly presents Roy Ayers – Delfonic Reworked #1, the first in a new series of reworks celebrating the iconic sound of vibraphone legend Roy Ayers. Born from a spontaneous edit of “What’s the T?” by Berlin-based DJ and producer Delfonic, this EP has grown into a full-fledged project—one that blends deep respect for Ayers’ legacy with a modern, dancefloor-ready edge.

Delfonic’s original reimagining caught the ear of BBE founder Pete Adarkwah, sparking a conversation that quickly evolved into something much bigger. With fan demand for a vinyl pressing and fresh energy around the unreleased material from BBE’s Virgin Ubiquity sessions (originally compiled in 2004), the path was clear: a rework series was born.

BBE Music’s longstanding relationship with Roy Ayers—one of the most sampled and revered figures in soul-jazz history—makes this release especially meaningful. The label has been instrumental in unearthing rare Ayers gems and preserving his vast, genre-defining catalogue for new generations of listeners.

This first instalment, Roy Ayers – Delfonic Reworked #1, features four carefully crafted tracks sourced from Virgin Ubiquity (1976–1981): the golden-hued “Green and Gold,” the sultry and soulful “What’s the T?” featuring Merry Clayton, the effortlessly funky “Sugar” with Carla Vaughan, and the bittersweet “Oh What a Lonely Feeling,” once again showcasing Clayton’s powerhouse vocals.

Delfonic, widely known for his remixes and edits across the disco, soul, and rare groove spectrum, brings his signature rhythmic sophistication and DJ instinct to each track—retaining their essence while opening them up for contemporary ears and dancefloors.

Mastered by Frank Merritt at Grammy-nominated The Carvery, this EP is now available on vinyl and digital formats. For collectors, DJs, and lovers of Ayers’ timeless groove, this is a must-have addition to the crate.
