R&B Singer J. Red the Nephew Releases New Single “Should’ve Been Home”

J.Red the Nephew, Atlanta Resident and North Carolina native, knew from a very young age that music was his true passion. Growing up listening to his radio he would often imitate the vocal stylings of his musical influences: Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, Charlie Wilson and Peabo Bryson. Further being, taken in by the New Jack Swing sound he also aspired to have the ear and production skills of its founding father, Teddy Riley. Red also knew that ultimately music was his true calling and made the steps to follow it as a career path. Though, his genre of choice is Soul and R&B singing, this versatile artist is also a talented songwriter and producer. Owner of WRSV 92.1 Jams, Chuck Johnson said of J. Red, “He has the best production and song quality I have ever heard from an artist based out of eastern North Carolina, his music is competitive with product from major labels in rotation now”.

J.Red began his official musical career as a member of the R&B group Average Guyz. While with the group, J. Red began what would be preparation for his solo career. Taking advantage of every opportunity his journey afforded him, Red found himself recording at Master Sound Studio in Virginia Beach. During this time he had the opportunity to record with such artists as Missy Elliot, Chad Hugo of The Neptunes as well as Big Bub (former lead singer of the 90s New Jack Swing group, Today). Red’s knowledge of studio engineering, production and songwriting enabled him to pursue the vision of owning his own production company, Soul Mop Productions Inc.

J. Red’s R&B single In Your Dreams was rated 35 of the top 50 songs for 2005 in the UK at WWW.soulsorts.com beating out such artists as Mary J. Blige, Usher, Jeffery Osborne and Earth, Wind & Fire to name a few.

J. Red released his first Southern Soul single “My Good Thang” in April of 2013 and caught the attention of the Southern Soul fans abroad. With the the release of his collaboration “Keep On Dancing” feat. Theodis Ealey, a living legend in the genre, J. Red was endorsed and accepted as the nephew to Southern Soul. He has several singles “Give It To Me, Drop That, I Will, Step Out, Turn It Out, Loving On You” all making serious buzz in the southern and lower North Eastern regions as well. With the release of his 2015, debut southern soul album, “Soul Certified” and his 2018 compilation LP J. Red the Nephew and Friends, (WHICH WON BLUES CRITIC ALBUM OF THE YEAR FOR 2018) he has proven that his production skills are world class. His 2019 cd release Platinum Soul 10 track album has taken the Soul\Blues genre by storm once again! His latest LP Nephew Swing is introducing a new sound by J. Red the Nephew and is heavily rotated in the Soul Blues genre. Shay Denise’s LP “Soul of a Woman” which features her smash singles “A man’s World, Addicted, and You Can Get It, is a product of his production as well.
