“I Want You”
New York, NY – September 20, 2011 –
Destined for stardom – a phrase we’ve all heard before, but for powerhouse R&B/pop singer/songwriter Kasha, it’s her definition. Born with a passion and flair for performing, the lively, lovely young Brooklyn, New York native has always possessed the drive, determination and singular focus necessary to succeed in show business.
As many superstars have done before her, Kasha began via a time-honored tradition, by singing in the choir at St. Luke’s Church when she was only five years old. With her mother’s encouragement and support, she began taking vocal and dance lessons at age six. At age 12, she also began piano lessons. Honing her craft at a young age prepared Kasha for the career that she was destined for. Throughout her school years, she participated in glee clubs and performed in numerous shows, all under the watchful, loving eye of her biggest cheerleader, her mom, who herself was a former vocalist and vocal trainer.
When Kasha lost her mother at age 14, her world changed. Her eldest sister Tamiko stepped up and nurtured Kasha and her brother, straight through until they were adults. However, with her mother no longer there, Kasha fell into a depression which shut her down for a period. Thankfully, some soul searching and quiet introspection eased Kasha back into her musical flow, and her personal tragedy actually strengthened her resolve to succeed, both for herself and to honor her mother’s desire for her future.
At fifteen, Kasha began to educate herself about the music industry, to assure that she’d foray into her career successfully and intelligently. She studied up on trademarks, copyrights and the business part of show business. She joined the performing rights society ASCAP and attended their weekly meetings. As a result, Kasha now has her own publishing established at ASCAP.
Kasha then began songwriting, creating the tunes that would represent her talents to the world. In 2001, she did her first major performance as the opening act for MCA Records’ artists Colonel Abrams and r&b vocal group Allure, for a special 9/11 tribute at the New York City club Nell’s. She was featured the next year on a compilation album by independent record label Fan Records and also participated in Greek Fest at Jones Beach. Kasha also opened for BET comedian Ronnie Long and proceeded to perform at numerous nightclubs throughout the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area, perfecting her craft and developing a local following with her captivating, buzzworthy performances. A vocalist who combines old school soul with a new school swagger, Kasha takes the best from both worlds.
Kasha’s first single, “Leaving You,” was released in 2004 and received radio airplay on New York’s KISS-FM. That station showcased her at their major toy drive for underprivileged kids, hosted by air personalities Lenny Green and Shaila. The inspiration for “Leaving You” is a personal one for Kasha. She wrote it for her sister, who was in an abusive relationship at the time, and this was Kasha’s way of being strong for her sister, the way that her sister had been strong after their mother’s passing. Kasha’s music is meant to be empowering, especially to women who are going through hard times and need someone who understands their plight. Kasha has dealt with her share of hardships and is using her music to let everyone know, “I’ve been there and I understand, and it will be OK.” Her always positive attitude, determination and perseverance serve her well and will be the keys to her continued success.
“I Want You” is Kasha’s new single, produced by Mark Wilson. It’s a catchy, sexy song, which showcases Kasha’s strong vocals beautifully, perfect for the clubs and the radio. The toe-tapping tune is sure to become a huge hit.
Kasha is currently in the lab, writing and recording more future smashes.
The multi-talented, multi-faceted Kasha, who has worked diligently on her considerable crafts for her entire life, is undoubtedly the real deal.
