Eugenie Jones Releases New Single “Nothing Better” — A Romantic Jazz Reverie from
Her New Album EUGENIE
Award-winning jazz vocalist, composer, and producer Eugenie Jones releases her latest single, “Nothing Better,” an emotionally rich and romantically evocative ballad that harkens back to the golden age of jazz. The track is now available on all major streaming platforms and is featured on her new album, EUGENIE.
“Nothing Better” is a lush, boomy-feeling love song that channels the elegance and intimacy of the 1940s and ‘50s jazz era. Backed by a string-laced ensemble—Mamiko Watanabe on piano, Yoojin Park on violin, Jessica Wang on cello, Lonnie Plaxico on bass, and Russell Carter on drums—Jones’ vocal performance glows with the sensuality and sincerity of someone singing straight from the heart. The result is a deeply nostalgic, yet fresh and timeless composition that captures the miracle of love and its life-changing capacity.
Jones was inspired to write “Nothing Better” after witnessing the heartfelt union of a young couple. Her voice, at once powerful and tender, conveys a reverence for love’s transformative magic. With Plaxico’s soulful bass anchoring the rhythm, and stirring string arrangements that elevate the track to cinematic levels, the song leaves no doubt about its central message: there is truly nothing better than love.
A prolific artist who first burst onto the scene in 2013 with her debut Black Lace, Blue Tears, Eugenie Jones has since become one of the most respected figures in contemporary jazz.
Her current full-length release, EUGENIE, reflects Jones’ musical growth and creative depth. Unlike her previous JazzWeek #7-ranked two-disc release Players, EUGENIE is a more intimate single-disc offering that casts a spotlight on her lyricism, interpretive range, and emotionally charged vocal storytelling. Produced by Lonnie Plaxico, EUGENIE includes six original songs and Jones’ signature reinterpretations of classics by Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Marvin Gaye, and Carole King, among others.
With “Nothing Better,” Eugenie Jones continues her tradition of marrying classic jazz with contemporary soul, drawing listeners into a soundscape where the past and present meet in beautiful harmony.
”Nothing Better” is from Jones’ Open Mic Records hit album, ‘Eugenie‘ which charted on Jazz Week Top 50 for 17 weeks, peaking at #4 and is now in the running for Grammy nomination as Best Jazz Vocal Album.
