Focused on delivering uplifting music and bathing listeners in the presence of God, the ensemble has been gaining notoriety as in the Tri-State area. Opening up for artists like Y’Anna Crawley, Vashawn Mitchell and JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, they have been making a name for themselves in Gospel music. Willie Marshall & 1 Accord recently made their official debut in the industry with the release of their new album, Journey To Greatness Live. The CD’s first single is the mellow yet inspirational track, “You Are”. Led by Youthful Praise’s lead vocalist Dave McClure, the single finds 1 Accord singing about what the Lord means to them. A beautiful and spirit-filled song, “You Are” is just one of the jewels on this brand new record. Fans of Gospel music will also enjoy the tune by Sunday Best Winner Kefia Rollerson. She delivers a spot-on performance on the song, “Follow You”. The duet with Marshall and Rollerson is magical.
Recorded live at Resurrection Center in Wilmington, DE, the recording captures the essence of the powerful night of worship. Uniquely gifted, Marshall & 1 Accord cleverly meld the sounds of Contemporary Christian Music, Praise & Worship and Contemporary Gospel in a unique and commanding way. Songs like the up-tempo “Jesus Is The King” and the exciting “Praise Be To God” showcase the songwriting talents of the group’s leader, as do tracks like the Crystal Hackley-led “Nothing Can Compare” and the moving “Belongs To You” featuring the vocal talents of Bernard Walker. One exquisitely-penned track after another fills this memorable project. It’s truly amazing in light of Willie Marshall’s beginnings.
Growing up, Willie had no aspirations of being in the music industry. He had no desire to pick up an instrument or a microphone, but after he graduated, things began to change and suddenly a desire to write songs took hold of him. Shortly after the songwriting bug bit him, he joined his college Gospel choir at Virginia State University. His passion for music continued to grow until he was led to start his own group, Willie Marshall & 1 Accord. The formation of the ensemble was a surprise to those around Willie as well as himself.
“As a kid, I was shy. I never sung and never led a song,” he recounts. “My mother was a praise and worship leader and my sister sings, but that wasn’t my desire until I had a vision from God. I knew that He wanted me to form a singing aggregation to give praise back to Him. That’s how Willie Marshall & 1 Accord began,” he shares.
As a vocalist and songwriter, his goal is to deliver songs that touch the heart yet are easy for congregations to sing. Through his songs, he wants listeners to understand that God has placed greatness within them, a theme that permeates the song, “Greatness In Me”. The impetus for the CD’s title, Willie desires that all believers attain all that God has placed within them.
