Sounds of Blackness Returns with New Track “Get Off Ya Hands & Vote!” | LISTEN!
A call to vote delivered by 3-time Grammy winning ensemble Sounds of Blackness, Get Off Ya Hands & Vote!
As the United States prepares for the mid-terms, television and radio ads will bombard the public of who to choose in serving their individual states. Yet there is an encouraging message also being delivered by the internationally known vocal and instrumental ensemble, Sounds of Blackness, a group more than familiar with spreading their talents in the name of social justice (“Time for Reparations” in honor of the Juneteenth holiday), positive action (“Optimistic”) and restoration (“The Path of Healing”). These Minneapolis, Minnesota based talents have made their presence known in other motivational moments since the early nineties from 3 Grammys to an International Time for Peace.
Their latest track, “Get Off Ya Hands & Vote!” (Atomic K/Sounds of Blackness Records), written, produced and arranged by The Sounds’ director Gary D. Hines, flows with a big band swing atmosphere, blended with traditional gospel passion. Soloists Artisha Knight-Milon and Quan Howell, along with The Sounds, trade off the lyrics inspired by the late civil rights hero John Lewis’s lifelong commitment to voting rights. In essence, the hand-clapping message should boost a complacent mood beyond other media to Get Off Ya Hands & Vote! in sparking our desires to make a difference at the mid-terms.
Get Off Ya Hands & Vote! is currently available on most digital platforms.
