LOS ANGELES (Oct. 6, 2025) — Funk legend and cultural icon Bootsy Collins has released a powerful new single, “Is Anybody Out There?,” through Bootzilla Records/Roc Nation. The emotionally charged track debuts alongside a podcast of the same name, co-hosted by Patti Collins and Andrea Langefield, produced in partnership with the nonprofit Women Helping Women. The single is now available on all major streaming platforms.
With his signature style and deep-rooted soul, Bootsy delivers a song that is both reflective and resonant, posing the universal question: “Is anybody out there?” In a world full of noise, the track reaches out to those who feel unseen or unheard, highlighting themes of empathy, connection, and healing.
“You never know what direction music may take you,” says Bootsy. “I had no idea that my latest single, ‘Is Anybody Out There?’ would turn into a national domestic violence theme with Women Helping Women. I’m so honored to be part of this Grooveminte for all women. And I’m so glad my wife, Pepperminte Patti, decided to step up about her past. Bootsy baby!”
The single serves as a sonic companion to the new “Is Anybody Out There?” podcast, a platform dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence. Through unfiltered stories, expert insights and community-focused segments, the show offers a space where survivors, advocates and allies can speak freely and be heard.
“When I was experiencing abuse, I kept asking — is anybody out there?” said Patti Collins, who shares her personal story publicly for the first time on the podcast. “Bootsy encouraged me to speak out, and this song became the soundtrack to my healing. Now, we’re using it to help others feel seen, heard, and supported.”
Singer-songwriter Myra Washington, who co-wrote “Is Anybody Out There?” and provides lead vocals on the track, said she was honored to be part of the campaign, even though she has not personally experienced domestic violence.
“When I wrote the song, I was processing my own struggles and pain,” Myra said. “I also wanted it to reach people who feel unheard and unseen. Music can touch places that words alone cannot. It can carry healing, spark resilience, and remind survivors that they are not alone.”
The podcast includes segments such as “City Queen Sounds,” listener call-ins and interviews with musicians and community leaders, all aimed at amplifying women’s voices and ending the stigma around abuse. It is produced in partnership with Women Helping Women, based in the greater Cincinnati area.
The campaign will culminate in a “Purple Party,” hosted by Michele Young, founder of Pink Eraser Project, a global livestreamed event to be held on Oct. 26 through the Bootsy Collins Network. The broadcast will feature performances, survivor stories, and live connections with domestic violence centers across the country. Proceeds raised will support Women Helping Women’s ongoing work.
Bootsy and Patti Collins have long championed community causes through their nonprofit, the Bootsy Collins Foundation. Their ongoing initiative, Funk Not Fight, works to uplift youth and reduce violence through creative expression, along with The Land of Superheroes partnership with Bon Secours Mercy Health.
With a career spanning more than five decades — from his early work with James Brown to Parliament, Funkadelic and beyond — Bootsy continues to use his platform to bring people together and push boundaries, both musically and socially.
