The Modern Anti-Love Anthem Flips the Script on Classic R&B Love Song

NEW YORK, NY – February 22, 2024 – EMPIRE recording artist Inayah makes a bold statement with the music video release of her hit single “For the Streets,” out now. A modern take on Fantasia’s R&B classic “When I See You”, this anti-love anthem serves as a powerful declaration for those breaking free from the shackles of toxic relationships. The single has amassed an impressive 31 million streams to date.

Directed by Jerry Morka, the video features Inayah navigating the various universal stages of a breakup: anger, grief, then acceptance. In the video, Inayah celebrates the breakup by having a glass of wine and indulging in self-care by the pool. The visual also shows Inayah going about her daily life as paparazzi swarm her, symbolizing the intrusion of fame, as she relays a message to her ex-lover. “For The Streets” encourages those in unfulfilling relationships to prioritize themselves, a theme beautifully exemplified in the video.

“Anytime something impacts my life, I write a song out of it and this is just one of those experiences I had,” says Inayah. “I was trying to reach the men and women who have finally decided to rid their lives and their time of the BS when it comes to love and relationships,” she continues.

On doing her rendition of the beloved Fantasia song, Inayah adds “Initially I was afraid to touch it, it’s an R&B staple, how dare I touch it? It was disruptive, it was dangerous and it was the fear that fueled me,” Inayah concludes.

Inayah has shook up the R&B world with her collection of unapologetic and fearless anthems that have captivated the ears and hearts of her dedicated fan base. As she creates her own lane in the music industry, drawing inspiration from icons like Beyoncé, Aretha Franklin, Yolanda Adams and Anita Baker, Inayah’s star is on the rise.

In 2014, Inayah’s musical journey took root as she began writing songs for a jingle company while simultaneously sharing cover videos on social media. Inayah’s dedication paid off when her version of Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up” went viral on Instagram, propelling her followers from a modest 3,000, to an impressive 1.3 million, and grabbing the attention of movie mogul Tyler Perry, singer/songwriter/actor Jamie Foxx, singer/songwriter Maxwell and many more. This also caught the attention of EMPIRE Records and led to a distribution deal which gave way to the release of ‘S.O.L.A.R.’ (Storytelling Over Lyrics and Rhymes) which amassed over 635.6M streams, featuring the RIAA Gold and Platinum-certified hit “Best Thing.” Inayah is also an actress on the Ms. Pat show on BET+.
