SavvyMuzik are thrilled to have signed a worldwide digital distribution
agreement with world class singer Lea Sweet. This partnership to
distribute her new album to the world is very special for both parties,
since one of the songs of the new album “The First And The Last Breath
Of You” was co-written by Lea, her producer Jeff Silverman and
SavvyMuzik General Manager Hellmut Wolf, who also played flute on this
track.
Lolita “Lea” Sweet, is a San Francisco native,
taking country soul beyond the borders of the local scene. The
singer-songwriter has made her journey to audiences throughout the U.S.
and abroad adding “flava” to pop-country music. When describing her
sound, she gives bright smiles and says, “ It’s my new style called
“soul-billy. A mixture of soul and hillbilly. I like to say San
Francisco meets Nashville and have a great love affair, they have a
baby and name it ‘Soul-Billy’.”
After a few years of singing R&B, Lea
sojourned to Nashville, TN and serendipitously fell in love with country
music . The African and Native American Indian songstress celebrates
her heritage in her debut country project, “I Will” which is receiving
rave reviews from the radio stations in San Francisco to the islands of
St. Kitts, all the way down under in Australia, “Lea’s voice is
dazzling, powerful and compelling with a sexy charisma. She puts
passion, heart and soul into country music.” San Francisco’s Mayor
Willie Brown called the single “I Don’t Want To Dance Without You” a
hit.
Lea is a three-time nominee of the 2008 Bay Area Black Music Awards
This year, the 2011 Black Music Association Academy nominated her in
the Best New Country Artist category.
As one of 11 siblings, Lea had to be a
go-getter. While working in the family’s limousine business, she
chauffeured celebrities like The God Father of Soul, Mr. James Brown
to his Bay Area concerts. She used her earnings to fund her first
project, R&B and jazz CD “I’m Taking Applications.” James Brown
Manager and Attorney of Estate, Judge Al Bradley later became Lea’s
business manager until his passing.
At her family reunion in Macon, GA, Lea viewed
the family tree and to her chagrin, she discovered her family roots
were planted firmly in music with Otis Redding as her cousins. Lea’s
father and uncle often recounts how they, Otis, Little Richard and James
Brown went to high school together playing in bands. Lea’s father,
William and Otis moved to San Francisco pursuing their music careers.
Needless to say, Cousin Otis went on to do great things and her father
chose serving the Army and Navy while playing with his band. She pays
homage to her family in the song, “I Will”
