Taiwanese Soul Artist Yufu to Release Debut Album “Heal Me Good”

Yufu is an emerging Soul and Funk musician who finds his muse in the classic 70s sound. Residing in Taiwan and Japan, he stands out as one of the rare Asian soul musicians who craft original tracks while honoring the legendary figures of the soul genre. Raised on Motown and psychedelic melodies, he developed a deep affinity and unexplainable love for soul, funk, and R&B music, particularly from icons like Curtis Mayfield, Willie Hutch, Barry White, and Eddie Kendricks, to name a few.

Following the release of his debut EP “To My Pen Pal” in 2021 and a live studio session “Yufu on CINEMAPHONIC” in 2023, Yufu’s eagerly anticipated first album, “Heal Me Good,” has arrived in an era of increasingly influenced by digital and artificial elements, Yufu endeavors to create a warm sound that captures the heart and atmosphere of the sensual soul music from its golden age. Through ten tracks, he offers listeners a “Good Time Classic Soul” experience, aiming to evoke profound emotions towards their loved ones by using the theme of medicine and drugs as a metaphor for the healing and addictive emotions encountered in relationships. The album kicks off with “Are You Elevated?” a track brimming with funky and foxy riffs, accentuated by wah-wah guitars and 70s electric piano, reminiscent of a soundtrack from a vintage detective drama film. It then transitions into the laid-back yet seductive love song “2nd Dose of Love,” driven by rhythmic congas and horns. Following this is the deeply romantic “3rd Dose of Your Mystic Drug,” where coral sitar guitar, organ, and strings create enchanting harmonies. The title track “Heal Me Good” is the fourth song, blending elements to tell a poignant love story that is also soothing, akin to a sensational healing therapy.

In contrast, “Searchin’ For Some Lovin’” presents a melancholic cold funk theme, setting the tone for the B-side’s “I Got A Taste of My Own Medicine,” which reflects on the early days of a past relationship and the what-ifs of its trajectory. The album’s first single, “Honey If You’re Extra,” reignites the energy, and the hopefulness of intimate relationships through wah-wah guitars and cowbell rhythms. The eighth track, “Envy & Jealousy,” vividly conveys its theme in a vibrant fashion, bringing the listener back to the album’s groovy core. The second single, “When?” is the ninth track, offering an inviting and cheerful melody with a 70s drum machine beat. The album wraps up with “In Search of A Cure,” which pleads for genuine and heartfelt emotions toward a special someone, accompanied by romantic vocal harmonies, leaving lingering uncertainties about love and life unanswered.
