Jennifer Hudson Releases New Seasonal Album “The Gift of Love” | LISTEN!
Jennifer Hudson returns to the recording studio with a very personal Christmas gift
When Jennifer Hudson wraps a Christmas gift of song, there is plenty of love to spread good cheer and great music. Since her American Idol appearance two decades ago, this extraordinary talent is one of the few artists ever to win all four major awards (Emmy, Grammy, Tony, Oscar). Now, she returns to the studio with her latest album and first holiday offering, The Gift of Love (JHUD Productions, Inc./Interscope), featuring four originals.
The variety of songs represented reflects her admiration for the deep meaning of the Christmas season. The Gift of Love launches with a forever standard in “Hallelujah,” where Hudson delicately paints Leonard Cohen’s deep spiritual reflections of life. On “Carol of the Bells,” the South-African acapella quintet The Joy brings a taste of their homeland. For raise the roof gospel experiences which is absolutely in one of Hudson’s power zones, check out “O Holy Night” and the Kirk Franklin co-production of “Go Tell It on The Mountain.”
Throughout The Gift of Love, Hudson effectively handles the musical changes of pace such as the big band driven, “Winter Wonderland” (number #27 on the Billboard AC charts). Alongside the expected Christmas catalog, the newer tracks showcase Hudson’s co-songwriting skills, including a contribution by Common entitled “Almost Christmas,” that offers a delightful twist to ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas.
Other top-notch producers assisting on “A Gift of Love” include David Foster, James Poyser and Greg Phillinganes.
The Gift of Love is now available on most digital platforms.
