R&B Legend Miki Howard Releases New Single “Number One Fan”

Singer/Songwriter Miki Howard’s brand-new single, “Number One Fan” is a track off her unique tribute CD

Through the on and off-stage tribulations that shadowed her career, her stunning voice bridging soul and gospel with stunning jazz phrasing has always been appreciated by her audiences. Miki Howard’s defining hit, ”Love Under New Management” (the inspiration for the 2016 autobiographical film of the same name) demonstrated a vocal finesse that produced several albums in the top R&B 100 charts since the mid-eighties.

The Chicago native’s affection for jazz greats includes her 2008 project “Miki Sings Billie” (Holiday). Earlier in 2022, Howard paid another thank you to Abbey Lincoln with “Throw It Away,” a track off her first CD in seven years entitled Meha (Tribute to Abbey Lincoln and My Sisters). Besides Lincoln, Howard gives gratitude to another African American talent, such as songwriter Rovella Williams with “Number One Fan.” This stirring ballad is dedicated to a loyal friend who is rooting on a special someone from the sidelines: “Every time you shine/I’m not that far behind/Cause I believe that you can.” Howard and Idris guide this production fueled by a strong piano hook and a calming background choir. It is always a treat to experience such a seasoned voice who has weathered all her storms.
