Flutist Jef Kearns to Release New EP “Jazzy AF” on Aug. 28th, 2020 | WATCH VIDEO for Single “Nomadic”!
Flute wiz Jef Kearns dazzles again on his latest EP, Jazzy AF
In mastering the flute complete with its complex dynamics, Jef Kearns has pushed his chosen instrument into newer territories within the today’s R&B and hip-hop market. Case in point Kearns’ articulate reinterpretation of rapper Warren G & Nate Dogg’s signature hit “Regulate.” Though there are notable flutists throughout music history such as Bobbi Humphrey, Hubert Laws and saxophonist Najee, the Canadian native continues stretching the instrument’s melodic and harmonic parameters.
Coupled with producer Douglas Romanow, Kearns’ soon to be released EP, Jazzy AF, meshes thick atmospheric soundtracks encompassing several genres. The 6-track selection features the funk frosted “Nomadic,” a Latin-tinged arrangement of Harold Faltemeyer’s techno smash, “Axel F” from Beverly Hills Cop and “Reverie,” dropping some rapid fire runs and adlibs amidst a reggae vibe. The only missing detail on Jazzy AF – if anything – is that the total listening experience is only twenty minutes. Otherwise, it is great to have Kearns’ astounding flute back in his own jazzy way.
