Funk and R&B giant, Marlon McClain, throws down Funky Fridays
Available for Pre-Order on iTunes!
We are more than well acquainted with the popular rally cry of relief, T.G.I.F. (Thank Goodness It’s Friday). Apparently, Marlon McClain has decided to undertake this popular phrase with all seriousness. Inspired by four years of social media guitar jams and his experience with old school funk masters Pleasure, Shock and The Dazz Band, the time has finally come for a CD project from the veteran musician/songwriter from Portland, Oregon.
Now Funky Fridays Vol. I is on the way, courtesy of McClain’s MacMan Music mogul. The Funky Friday highlights begin with “Mac and Cheese,” dishing sophisticated funk with McClain’s sweet guitar riffs, brass hits and solid synth bass lines. “Nuthin’ But The Funk” features Emanuel Officer (Bobby Brown, CeCe Peniston) on vocals and that omnipresent talk box carrying the tracks’ final minute. McClain invites bass guitarist Al Turner (Earl Klugh) to take centerstage for “Say What.” Occasionally, funk takes a step back, including the midtempo ballad, “I Think of U,” dedicated to McClain’s mother. It’s a treat to hear from one of funk’s innovative musicians in McClain, whose Funky Fridays Vol. I provide some needed relief amidst today’s harsh global storms.
