Jennifer Mekel Achieves Great Success With “Great God”

The Choir Mistress, one of Gospel music’s rising stars, finds Top 40 success with the legendary Boys & Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble

Akron, OH (July 8, 2015) Natives of Akron, OH have known about their hometown treasure, Jennifer Mekel for years. Her annual concerts with the Akron Symphony’s Gospel Meets Symphony Choir are sold out, “must attend” affairs. Each Sunday, she dons her robes to direct the choir at Mount Calvary Baptist Church solidifying their status as a leading vocal ensemble in Ohio. Now, Mekel commands the national stage with “Great God” (POWAMM) joined on record by one of America’s most legendary vocal ensembles, The Boys & Girls Choir of Harlem Alumni Ensemble (BGCH Alumni).

“Great God” vaults into the Gospel Top 40 this week with WPRS Washington, DC, WCAO Baltimore, MD, WNNL Raleigh, NC and WBBP Memphis, TN leading the charge, joined this week by WTHB in Augusta, GA. Mekel is excited for the success of “Great God feat. The BGCH Alumni” which is currently available on iTunes, Amazon and other Digital outlets. The single is a prelude to her forthcoming album on the POWAMM (Power Of Word And Music Ministry) recording label. “I am thrilled to be using my gifts to glorify God in these times. We had this phenomenal song in “Great God” and we needed a choir. Someone suggested the Harlem Alumni choir and I thought it was a wonderful idea. What you hear is the blessing that so many have experienced working with and listening to this choir over the years. I’m so honored to have been able to collaborate with them and while it was a collaborative effort, the result is pure Worship.” Mekel is also humbled to collaborate on her forthcoming album with acclaimed talents such as multi-Dove and Stellar Award nominated Earnest Pugh, Swoope, Khyrie Tyler, and H. Doobie Powell. Mekel says, “This album will be an amazing compilation of songs that ministers to the soul, radiating messages of hope, strength and love.”

Jennifer Mekel is a prolific singer/songwriter, she is also a licensed ordained minister having graduated from the University of Akron and Ashland Theological Seminary. In addition to her role as Choir Mistress at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Akron,OH in the areas of pastoral care and worship, Mekel is a worship leader and instructs Bible Study along with music workshops for the surrounding community. Mekel believes that it is through service to others that we serve God. She uses her position as coordinator of a community initiative called The Pastors’ Project to create awareness, educate clergy and the community regarding drug abuse, chemical dependency and mental illness.
