(New York, NY – March 10, 2015) – Chicago based recording artist Kenya releases new single today, “Let Me” on iTunes, and all other major digital retail outlets. “Let Me,” described as a soulful silky sophisticated mover, entered on Billboard’s Top 40 on the Urban Adult Contemporary charts at #38. The video for “Let Me” was filmed in Los Angeles last week and will be released this month. Kenya’s forthcoming U.S. album will be released in summer 2015. “I’m ecstatic about my new single and video and the success of ‘Let Me’ at radio,” says Kenya. “It’s been an awesome journey over the past few years. I’m grateful for all the blessings and support.”
On March 15, Kenya’s new UK/Europe album, My Own Skin will be released by Expansion Records. Produced by Kendall Duffie of the duo Kloud 9, Khari Cabral Simmons, and Darren Benjamin, the album is an eclectic mix of soulful ballads, mid-tempo and dance tunes. The album has been receiving positive reviews from the UK press.
Kenya is no stranger to the independent artist scene. She released two singles from her UK debut album, My Own Skin. “Be Here,” a soulful mid-tempo ballad with duo Kloud 9, was released in the U.S. and the UK. “Be Here” peaked at #28 on the Billboard Urban Adult Contemporary charts and #2 on the UK Soul chart. The second single, “Wednesday Girl” released in the UK, and is also featured on My Own Skin, is a neo-soul/jazz groove, which peaked at #2 on the UK Soul charts. The third single, a SugaBoom remix of Stevie Wonder’s “I Can’t Help It” is featured on the UK project and will be included on the forthcoming U.S. album. The video for “I Can’t Help It” features FOX’s Empire star Malik Yoba. See links for all videos below.
In 2010, Kenya released her debut EP, Starting Over, produced by GRAMMY Award-winning producer Maurice Joshua (best remix for Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love”). Kenya’s follow-up EP, Jazz Made Rhythm, released in 2012, is a diverse blend of R&B classics revamped into contemporary jazz arrangements.
During the past few years, she has performed at key jazz clubs and festivals around the country. She has opened for artists such as Lalah Hathaway and Rachelle Ferrell, just to name a few. This summer, Kenya will tour both the U.S. and Europe. Dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
