SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Soul singer and songwriter Aloe Blacc, best known for his international hit single “I Need A Dollar”, is gearing up for the worldwide release of his third album and debut for XIX Recordings/Interscope Records, entitled Lift Your Spirit. The album will be released in the fall internationally, where Blacc has amassed a devout following, and in the U.S. and Canada in early 2014.

The announcement comes just two weeks after the release of smash hit, “Wake Me Up!” – the new single from Swedish producer and DJ Avicii.  Blacc supplies contemplative lyrics and soulful vocals on the track he co-wrote with Avicii and Mike Einziger (Incubus). “Wake Me Up!” has peaked at No. 1 in 63 countries globally, including the U.K., where it has become the fastest-selling single of 2013, selling 267,000 copies in its first week of release. The hit single has since surpassed over half-million copies overall, securing its now third week atop the U.K. singles chart.

Born in Southern California to Panamanian parents, Blacc released his first hip-hop mixtape in 1996 and was associated with the indie hip-hop scene for many years thanks to his rap duo Emanon (alongside DJ Exile) and touring with the collective Lootpack before going solo. In 2006, he signed to niche indie label Stones Throw Records and released his genre-bending, debut solo album, Shine Through, followed by 2010’s, Good Things, concocting a vintage yet current sound. Good Things, which has been certified gold in France, Germany, and the U.K., spawned the massive international platinum-selling single “I Need A Dollar,” which also became the theme to the HBO series How To Make It In America. The single went on to sell over two million copies worldwide, and Good Things over a million units globally. In 2012, Blacc was nominated for two BRIT Awards (Best International Male Solo Artist and Best International Breakthrough Act).
