Funk Vocalist Nadir Launches New Vinyl Single & Video for “Go It Alone”
New Vinyl Single and Video!
Detroit: Adding to his already weighty collection of Detroit Music Awards trophies (now 11), Tennessee native and celebrated member of the Motor City Music Community Nadir stepped up to the podium in April to accept his 5th DMA for Outstanding Urban Funk Vocalist. “I am honored, humbled and grateful to be recognized by the heroes and heroines of this elite music city,” says Nadir, “and even more excited because the latest award comes just prior to the release of my latest project, The Book of Jonah, which is a collection of songs that we hope chronicles this moment in the Detroit Music lexicon. Producing the album was a labor of joy for a wide spectrum of artists and musicians, many from Detroit, but also many from around the world who shared their talents to pay homage to the rich musical legacy of the city.”
This heritage is evident in every note on The Book of Jonah, Nadir’s chronicle of 2012, and his third full-length album. The first single “Go It Alone”, released on 7-inch vinyl, is a covert soul mission that tiptoes through the blues, but infiltrates jazz and rock before it’s over. On the flipside “Love Thang” is a joyful, stomping, funk rock mash-up with gospel overtones and a smattering of DC go-go rhythms. The accompanying “Go It Alone” video, shot by director Drew Parfitt in multiple locations around the Motor City, gives tribute to both Detroit’s rich musical heritage and it’s famous visual grit.
And all this is just the beginning of the party! With each page of The Book of Jonah, the award-winning songwriter fashions a lyrical narrative of love and loss, of fear and fearlessness, painted on a tapestry that weaves new soul with indie rock, Latin jazz and 21st century blues. The ten song set features contributions and collaborations with a talented roster of artists including Detroit trumpet master Rayse Biggs, rock and soul singer/songwriter Mayaeni, Canadian gospel soul artist Joel Parissien (Newworldson), new Detroit rock diva Steffanie Christ’ian– and Simone White, former drummer for Michael Franti and George Clinton–who fired his contributing tracks across the world from Australia.
The Book of Jonah is scheduled for an early summer release. The 7-inch vinyl single “Go It Alone”/”Love Thang” is available now at select retailers. View the “Go It Alone” music video and learn more about Nadir and retail outlets at
