Portrait of a Legend 1951-1964, a career-spanning 31 track collection of music pioneer Sam Cooke’s greatest works, is being released by ABKCO Records for the first time ever as a vinyl double album on June 24. Originally released in 2003 as a CD/Super Audio CD hybrid, Portrait of a Legend has never before been available on LP, the dominant format at the time of Cooke’s greatest success.

Augustus Pablo is a legendary figure in reggae music, widely acknowledged, along with King Tubby and Lee “Scratch” Perry as one of the  prime architects of dub music, which has had a profound influence on hip-hop and electronica. Pablo was also a first-rate producer who launched the careers of such reggae legends as Jacob Miller and Hugh Mundell. He was also a highly-skilled multi-instrumentalist who played not only on his own recordings but as a session man on a number of great roots reggae recordings of other artists.

In 2010, when Motéma Music was still a fledgling label, albeit one with an already impressive roster that included such lauded artists as Lynne Arriale, Rufus Reid and Marc Cary, President Jana Herzen signed a relatively unknown vocalist by the name of Gregory Porter. At the time, the Brooklyn-based vocalist was already developing quite a buzz, incited by his weekly SRO residency at St. Nick’s Pub in Harlem.

is set to release The Complete Sun Ship Session which includes newly discovered and previously unissued alternate takes from one of the final studio sessions by the John Coltrane Quartet. The three LP set will be released May 21 and is also being made available on a two CD set through Verve Records on April 16.
