of the 2014 – 2015 Jazz Fellowship Awards
 
The American Pianists Association is pleased to announce NBC’s Lester Holt as the honorary chair of the American Pianists Association’s 2014 – 2015 Jazz Fellowship Awards presented by REI Real Estate Services. The winner of the competition will receive the Cole Porter Fellowship, valued at $100,000, includes a $50,000 cash prize (the largest prize in the world for a young jazz pianist), a recording contract with Mack Avenue Records, and career assistance and engagement for two years.

Nashville, TENN (August 1, 2014) – Motown Gospel receives six GMA Dove Award nominations for Tye Tribbett, Micah Stampley and Sheri Jones – Moffett. Tribbett received three nominations for Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year (Greater Than – Live), Contemporary Urban Gospel Song of the Year (“If He Did It Before…Same God”), and Gospel Performance of the Year (“If He Did It Before . . . Same God”). Micah Stampley received two nominations for Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year (Love Never Fails), and Contemporary Urban Gospel Song of the Year (“Our God”). Sheri Jones – Moffett received a nomination for Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year (Power & Authority – Live in Memphis).

Hall of Fame vocalist and five-time Grammy winner, Larnelle Harris, will receive the 2014 Kentucky Governor’s Artist Award in a public ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort, Kentucky this October. The prestigious award is given to Kentuckians who have made significant contributions to the arts in the Commonwealth, across the country, and around the globe. Harris will be the first contemporary Christian vocalist to receive the Artist Award since its inception 29 years ago.

Contemporary Jazz Flutist, Vocalist & Songwriter Ragan Whiteside took home the award for Best Black Female Flutist of the Year in the Black Women in Jazz & Fine Arts Awards, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta, GA. The black tie event featured a night of glamour and elegance, creating a greater awareness of the many vital contributions that African American Female artists have made in the past, present and to the future of jazz.
