London R&B Singer BVDHI Releases New Track “Loser” | LISTEN!

Singer and Producer BVDHI returns with infectious, introspective new single Loser

London-based singer-songwriter and producer BVDHI announces Loser, the latest release from her debut longform project. BVDHI (pronounced ‘boo-dee’) follows the acclaimed release of her 2024 singles Tie Dye, Atoms and Antidote with a typically shapeshifting track that moves through languorous neo-soul melody, rumbling bass-weight and her signature stacked vocal harmonies.

Opening with BVDHI’s crystalline vocals tripping through a finger-picked R&B guitar line, the track soon shifts into a syncopated groove that undulates and builds to reach a head-nodding mid-tempo pocket. Just as we settle into the vibe, vocals start to swell through electronic processing and precision harmony as the groove breaks down and the song diffuses, leaving us in its wake of soft melody and yearning reverb. Running at under three minutes, Loser packs a remarkable breadth and depth of musicianship into its concise form, reflecting that ever-shifting instrumental backing in BVDHI’s vulnerable lyricism that explores the often challenging realities of life as an artist.

“I was trying to work on new music but couldn’t find a flow so instead I started looking for distraction,” BVDHI explains of the song’s making. “I tried to holla at friends and no one was around. I wanted something to pull me out of a rut and I started to spiral. I was thinking about how creativity has always been a coping strategy for me to escape my life but also how that process of creativity can often leave you stuck when it doesn’t come easy. The thing that’s meant to make you feel better can equally make you feel mad. Then, the tune just came to me – I started singing and playing the piano. I found my escape.”

Entirely written, composed and produced by BVDHI herself, Loser combats the fact that less than 10% of music released in the UK is produced by women.

Formerly known as Omahrose, BVDHI is the new moniker for an artist stepping into her independence and creative power as a working class woman of colour. “It’s all about authenticity and having autonomy over the sound,” she explains. “I’m 40 years old and so many people have told me what to do, how I should do it and what would be best for me over the years but I am only now learning that I know how to do it all myself.”

A fixture of the London soul circuit and vocal coach to wide-ranging talent including UKG stalwart Murkage Dave, indie rock outfit Bar Italia and singer-songwriter Alewya, BVDHI is now readying the release of her forthcoming debut longform project, heralding a new chapter of producing, writing and singing for herself. Already garnering praise from BBC Introducing, Earmilk, Record of the Day and Stereofox, the project features collaborations with Grammy-winning engineer Aamir Yaqub and female producer Leloo Chan-Ellis. It is set to deliver her most expansive and immediate work yet, creating a soul-inflected soundworld that references ‘90s classics as much as a futuristic sense of earworming harmony and instrumentation.

With live performances on the cards and the full release of the project slated for later in 2025, this year is shaping up to be BVDHI’s. Keep your ears open and listen out for the irrepressible sound – you’ll know it when you hear it.
