Synthonic
Lampin’
Released 23rd May 2025

Lampin’ is the new album from electronic keys maestro ‘Synthonic’ – the alter-ego of jazz pianist and composer Kieron Garrett. A clasically-trained musician who has also been playing the tuba since the age of seven, Garrett is known for his innovative compositions and dexterity on keys. The Kieron Garrett Quartet (KGQ) consisting of bassist Mike Pratt, drummer Pete Cumber and leading saxophonist Dave O’Higgins, have also developed a strong reputation as incendiary players.

Garrett himself has also shared the stage with many other notable musicians, including John Etheridge, Martin Shaw, Shez Raja and Tony Kofi, performing at some of the most prestigious venues in the country such as Ronnie Scotts, The 606 Club, The Jazz Cafe and The Royal Albert Hall.

Now on a solo mission to showcase the more daring and progressive side of his creative talent, Kieron Garrett has channeled his passion for funk-fuelled synth into a recording that is overflowing with technical skill and good vibes. His undeniable prowess as a classically trained pianist and seasoned jazz keys player shine through in droves on this new work, which just as much highlights Kieron’s ear for a catchy riff, as it does his unique compositional abilities. Though very much rooted in classic funk, the Synthonic material contains sounds, melodies and themes that cover jazz, soul and electronica, coming together to form a unique aural experience. Garrett’s musical inspirations for Synthonic flow from a plethora of sources, from Chick Corea to Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter to Stevie Wonder.

Garrett’s abundant expertise as a producer are also very evident through his work as Synthonic – his 2020 album ‘Do You Remember?’ gained extensive praise amongst fans and critics as well as widespread radio play. Speaking about the new album Lampin’, Garrett remarks: I decided to go back to my roots for this album; back to what I grew up listening to (the 90s Acid Jazz scene) – the genre I really identify with but with a smattering of more modern twists, sounds & ideas. I also wanted to include some of the brilliant and diverse artists that I’ve played with over the years.. Featured artists on the album are Vasilis Xenopoulos on tenor sax, Jack Birchwood on trumpet, Valere Speranza on guitar / bass and Jeremy Dunning on guitar.

Catch Synthonic live with a dynamic six-piece, rhythm section and two horns at Dawkes Music in Maidenhead on 11th May, Modern Jazz Club in Southampton on 18th May and Sidmouth International Jazz & Blues festival on 24 May, supporting Gabrielle.
