Rising jazz artist Summer Pearl announces her new EP “THE INTERLUDE”, released 6th March via Kitto Records. Born and raised in London, Summer’s music is a conscious celebration of black and female liberation, with warm, free-flowing lyricism combined with enchanting melodies.
Echoing generational talents like Lauryn Hill with a distinctly fresh, UK twist, through seven tracks Summer Pearl showcases her soulful artistry and genre-fluid sounds. She explains, “I like to think of “THE INTERLUDE” as an exploration of what I hold inside. Each track differs in sound and subject, and is what I have been thinking about or going through for the past few years. I channel the experiences of my ancestors, women and myself to conjure emotions to write and express.”
“THE CREATOR” shows off Summer Pearl’s sharp penmanship and lyrical flow, reminiscent of Bahamadia, with her strong spiritual and political lyrics gliding seamlessly over a crunching and weighty hip-hop instrumental. “THE END GAME” explores the end of a relationship, effortlessly gliding over a smooth yet crunching jazz-infused early 90s hip-hop-inspired instrumental. Summer Pearl embraces joy and freedom on the EP’s focus track “THE REBOUND”, featuring Rudimental and Steam Down vocalist Afronaut Zu.
“THE INTERLUDE” follows up Summer’s critically acclaimed 2023 debut mixtape “outmysystem”. Summer has quickly become one of the most exciting new talents in the UK, with radio support from Gilles Peterson and Jamz Supernova, co-signs from acclaimed artists like Omar, Paul Weller, Jamie Cullum and many more. Fresh off a tour of South Korea and Australia with renowned jazz collective Steam Down, and supporting Digable Planets at London’s iconic KOKO in December, Summer is now preparing to play five shows at this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas, marking Summer’s US debut.
