Funk Group Lettuce Releases New Track “Star Children” | LISTEN! Announces New Tour for 2025
Lettuce Close Out 2024 Tipping Their Hats to Famed Parliament-Funkadelic Keyboardist Bernie Worrell in New Single “Star Children”
“Star Children” Is Included on the First 7” Record of a Brand New Collectable Series
Topping off a year of high profile festival plays, coast-to-coast tours, and the launch of a new on-demand platform, future funk all-stars Lettuce have released a new digital single entitled “Star Children” hot off the heels of last month’s relaese of the James Brown-inspired “Monorail 3000.” Originally released on the Japanese CD version of 2008’s Rage but never available on vinyl or digital platforms until now, “Star Children” finds the sextet paying homage to the late P-Funk keyboardist and Wizard of Wu himself, Bernie Worrell.
“Star Children” has the instantly recognizable Lettuce signature sound with boisterous synth leads courtesy of former keyboardist Neal Evans, a head-bobbing foundation of rhythm section stalwarts Adam Deitch on drums and Erick “Jesus” Coomes on bass; unison melodic turnarounds, and sharp horn stabs. Primarily composed by guitarist Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff he offers the following insight on the track’s lineage and the greats who inspired it, “It is one of the few recordings that featured Neal Evans on an Analog Modular Synthesizer that was part of Joel Hamilton’s Studio G. The bands love for Bootsy [Collins], George Clinton , P-Funk, Garry Shider and Bernie are not only evident through the music, but through the namesake of this Lettuce Classic Vault Release …. Star Children.”
In addition to the digital single, the new track will be included on a brand new 7” record, part of a brand new 7” collectable series the band will consistently roll out in the coming months. The record is available now to purchase on both a green colorway (HERE) and classic black vinyl (HERE). Continuing to call forth the past sessions that are coming out of the vaults and the forthcoming rollout of 7″ records, Adam Deitch adds, “Star Children references Star Child, the legendary singer of Parliament Funkadelic. We are all children of the stars.”
Lettuce recently announced ‘The Get Up Tour,’ a 17-date jaunt that includes 7 co-headlining shows with hip-hop icon GZA (of Wu-Tang Clan) and his live band The Phunky Nomads with key plays in Los Angeles, Oakland, Brooklyn, and more.
