“Christmas has always been my favorite time of year,” shares Merrell. “For as far back as I can remember, my family and I have celebrated it in a big way, and everything we did, we did together. We sang carols as a family choir, decorated, watched movies, cooked, and shopped as a unit. These are some of my fondest memories, and I wanted to create a piece that paints that holiday picture and tells my story in a way that resonates with others who love the season as much as I do.”

Hailing from a musical family, Merrell was introduced to his passion for singing at a young age, performing alongside his family in their choir. His early start paved the way for a career that has taken him to some of the biggest stages and alongside some of the biggest names. Merrell has been featured on recordings with artists like OneRepublic, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Cassadee Pope, and he has appeared on major network television events, including NBC’s Christmas in Rockefeller Center and PBS’s Austin City Limits. Most recently, he has been performing with American rock band Needtobreathe and will soon release his highly anticipated studio album, Era, an homage to jazz and soul icons like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Donny Hathaway.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Merrell is dedicated to empowering young artists through his program, SessionDay LIVE!, a masterclass-style recording session experience for middle and high schoolers. He also plans to relaunch his nonprofit, Takin’ the Stage, a performing arts initiative for youth, in summer 2025.
