Embers: a source of undercurrent energy with great power for forging will and determination.
With this new project, nationally and internationally acclaimed pianist and composer Kevin Harris seeks to bring light to the hidden embers that will continue to quietly burn throughout the curious history of our societies.
There can be embers of courage, innovation, respect, and there can also be embers of racism, classism, sexism, and the like.
It’s often good to pause and look for things we might not be seeing.
The Album includes dynamic original compositions where, true to his reputation, Harris’ artistic delivery is passionate, purposeful, eye opening.
The ensembles featuring Terri Lyne Carrington, Jason Palmer, Caroline Davis, Max Ridley, and Tyson Jackson plays with intent nuance, persistent curiosity and joy and, at moment, intersecting genres seemingly transcending above the borders often defining where one style begins and another style ends.
Like embers, Harris’ repertoire radiates an inventive message to never subdue our persevering spark, and value the power, responsibility, and curiosity to nourish ideals, integrity, and constructive progress.
