[NEW YORK, September 6, 2024] – Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Jazzmeia Horn has announced the release of her new single and music video, “You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me,” the first offering from her highly anticipated fourth album Messages. The album is slated for release on October 25 through Empress Legacy Records. The single is available on all streaming platforms today, accompanied by a visually striking video that brings Horn’s unique artistry to life.

Messages represents a bold new chapter in Horn’s illustrious career, delving deep into themes of family, love, sacrifice, and the pursuit of artistic freedom. Reflecting on her life and relationships as she tours the world, Horn infuses the album with a deeply personal perspective, balancing the joys and challenges of her journey.

In Messages, Horn’s mastery of jazz tradition intersects with contemporary influences, resulting in a sound that is both timeless and refreshingly modern. The album features 10 original compositions, alongside her stunning interpretation of the 1932 classic “You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me.” The new single captures Horn’s extraordinary vocal range and her ability to breathe new life into jazz standards, while the rest of the album explores the complexities of personal and professional relationships.

Horn’s decision to pare back her ensemble for this album allows her voice to shine even brighter, while still embracing the avant-garde spirit she exhibited in her previous work. The intimate yet expansive sound of Messages is a departure from the big band arrangements of 2021’s Dear Love, showcasing a more focused and introspective side of the artist.

In the song “Sing Your Own Song,” Horn offers a poignant reminder to stay true to oneself despite the difficulties life may present. The lyrics, written for her mother who sacrificed her own musical career, underscore the importance of perseverance and self-belief. This sentiment echoes throughout the album, as Horn’s messages serve as a source of encouragement and empowerment for listeners facing their own challenges.

“Mother’s Love,” another standout track, reflects on the bittersweet nature of being away from her children while on tour. The song’s shifting meters and unpredictable melody capture the complexity of Horn’s emotions as she navigates her dual roles as a mother and a world-renowned artist.

The album also includes “Mysteries of Us,” a richly layered piece featuring Chicago trumpeter Marquis Hill, who brings a soulful depth to the composition. The track explores the spirituality and emotional intensity of Horn’s current relationship, blending traditional jazz elements with contemporary poetry.

Horn’s innovative approach is further exemplified in tracks like “Voicemail Blues” and “FLIP’D’SWITCH,” where she weaves in literal messages from her life, including voicemails from family, friends, and even a heated exchange with an ex-partner. These personal touches create a vivid narrative that resonates with authenticity and emotional power.

“I write for healing, reconciliation, and freedom of expression,” says Horn. “My messages are for anyone who needs a reminder to believe in themselves and to pursue their passions, no matter the obstacles.”

With Messages, Jazzmeia Horn continues to solidify her place among the vanguard of contemporary jazz artists. The album’s blend of tradition and innovation, paired with Horn’s compelling storytelling, ensures that Messages will be a powerful and unforgettable experience for listeners.
