About Fred White

If Fred White were to do nothing more in music for the rest of his life, he has already amassed the kind of resume from which dreams are made. Fred has written songs for singing royalty such as Diana Ross, Patti LaBelle, Smokey Robinson, Howard Hewett, and Oleta Adams. He’s lent his voice to the recordings of such diverse greats as Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross Barbara Streisand, Kirk Whalum and many others. His voice has graced film soundtracks such as Shrek, Ace Ventura When Nature Calls, Ladder 49, and Congo. Fred White has toured the world with legends such as Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Phil Collins and Rod Stewart. While on tour he has sung duets with: Phil Collins “Easy Lover”, Diana Ross, “EndLess Love” many times, with Toto,”Rosanna” with Steve Lukather and on Elizabeth Taylors’ 70th Birthday Celebration of Life, with Rod Steward “When I need You” Fred White is an extremely versatile vocalist.

In 2007, Fred White penned and co-produced the title track/first single of international superstar Diana Ross’ album titled ,” I Love You”. It is the only original song on an album of otherwise classic love ballads. Ross – a.k.a. “The Boss” paid Fred the ultimate compliment when she stated, “From the first time I heard this song I was touched… it moved me immediately. I just knew it was the right song for me.” Fred’s mastery is further justified in a review from the All Music Guide stating that of all the CD’s songs, Fred’s “I Love You (That’s All That Really Matters)” “made the most of Ross’ vocal capabilities and range.”

Fred’s special touch with songwriting was apparent to producer Sami McKinney when invited him to collaborate with him (along with Denise Rich) on “I’m In Love” for Patti LaBelle’s 1994 CD, “Gems”.Not long after, Oleta Adams recorded a Gospel song written by Fred. Adams recorded it as the opening number of her first gospel CD, “Come Walk with Me” (1997). That song, “Holy is the Lamb,” gave White his first Grammy Nomination. A few years later, Fred co-wrote with Singer Songwriter Bejhi Majied on a song “Somebody’s Watching Over Me” on Howard Hewett’s 2001 gospel CD, “The Journey”,it was the most played song from the project at radio…though it was not officially released as a single.

During the Covid pandemic in 2020, virtually Fred was busy writing with Diana Ross for her upcoming album. In November 2021 Ross released an album titled “Thank You” where Fred co-wrote 4 songs with Ross “Beautiful Love” “Just In Case”, “ Let’s Do It” and “All Is Well” which included Ross’s daughter Rhonda Ross as co-writer. In 2023 for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards “Thank You” received a Nomination for “Best Traditional Vocal Album” Fred received 4 nominations for the 4 songs he co-wrote on the album!

A man of quiet yet unshakable faith, Fred White continues to diligently write incredible songs for artists both established and up-and-coming, and anticipates expanding his profile as an artist in his own right.
