Currently The Climbing Charts

Singer/songwriter, actor and philanthropist Alex Harris is music. Even while talking to the charming artist, there is a musical lilt and rhythmic sway to his intonations and movements that draw you in. It’s no surprise that music has been a centrical force in Harris’ life since birth. The sincerity he brings to his songs, coupled with his riveting story-telling and down-right soulful pipes, have allowed him to grace stages with everyone from Al Green, Aretha Franklin and Kirk Franklin to John Legend, Bobby Rush, and Eric Benet, among others. Harris, who has performed at two Presidential Inaugural Galas, is the son of a pastor and a teacher. He came up singing in his father’s church and was the lead singer in the family band. The middle of eight children, the group was called the A-Boys, later reinvented as A7, six kids, all with names beginning with the letter ‘A’, and the seventh member being the presence of God. Harris will make his Shanachie debut in January 2024 and his new single “Lose My Religion,” is currently at radio climbing the charts. The soul stirring, “Lose My Religion” showcases his crisp and emotive vocals backed by a sweeping organ and horn arrangement featuring the Monophonics. “The song pays homage to my southern Georgia roots while celebrating the beauty of love and passion when one meets the love of their life, as I did in my own love story. Love is full of so much beauty and wonder!” Harris’ brother, Grammy and Emmy winning producer David (SwagG R’celious) Harris, (H.E.R. Zhavia Ward, Teyana Taylor, President Barack Obama and First lady Michelle Obama) co-produced the track. Shanachie Entertainment General Manager Randall Grass says, “Alex Harris is a young artist with an old soul, a great voice reminiscent at times of Otis Redding and Al Green, and a depth of feeling that is unusual these days. As soon as I heard him, I wanted to sign him!” Harris shares, “Making this album has been a labor of love and a truly collaborative effort. I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some extraordinary artists, including the multi-Grammy award-winning Shannon Sanders, the immensely talented multi-Grammy and Oscar nominated songwriter, Sam Ashworth, the brilliant multi-Grammy nominated songwriter, Rub Amnafu, and a host of promising emerging songwriters.”

Born in Manchester GA (a rural town just five minutes away from FDR’s Little White House in Warm Springs, GA), Alex Harris credits his parents for teaching him about “faith, education and music.” He confesses that his education in soul music began in the church and continued listening and learning about musicians like Same Cooke, Otis Redding, and Ray Charles. A Renaissance man of sorts, Harris has a bachelor’s in arts in human services and psychology and a master’s in theology and social work. He did an extended graduate study in adolescent counseling at Harvard University, and recently finished his doctorate in organizational leadership at Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Harris is also the founder of his own nonprofit, the Tampa based Arts Conservatory for Teens. The organization is dedicated to serving under-served and at-risk communities, using the arts as a catalyst to prepare students for high school graduation, higher education, and the workforce.

Alex Harris has been writing songs since middle school. Incredibly, the first song he ever wrote “Hold One,” got airplay after he pitched it to the station himself. “It just fueled this gift to continue to write and seek out mentorship…I’ve been writing ever since,” he shares. The songwriter has made many fans along the way. In fact, the legendary guitarist, songwriter and producer who built a career recording on Stax and with such luminaries as Otis Redding, Booker T. & The M.G.’s, Carla Thomas and Johnnie Taylor among others, is a fan of Harris’ single “Lose My Religion.” Cropper declares, “The song is about losing religion but it’s easy to get lost to Alex Harris singing anything.” For now, you can get lost in Harris’ new single but come January 2024 you will have an entire album to get lost in. Harris concludes, “The essence of this album is imbued with the intention to uplift, inspire, and heal. It’s a celebration of life and the myriad of emotions we all experience. I firmly believe that within these songs, there are moments that will resonate deeply with each listener, evoking their unique and meaningful emotions.”
