Music Choice Celebrates Black History Month 2014 with Special Programming

Music Choice announced today the launch of its Black History Month programming, honoring women in music. From Monday, February 3, 2014 – Friday, February 28, 2014, Music Choice will deliver videos from today’s hottest female artists, as well as feature original programming including “Primed” and “MC Docs: The Diva Debate” on Music Choice On Demand. Music Choice has proven to be a network devoted to all genres of music, as well as a network that highlights up and coming artists. “Primed” is an emerging artist series that will give viewers an inside look into rising stars and their unique sound. This month’s rising stars are Roc Nation artist Bridget Kelly, American Idol winner Candice Glover and Soul Songbird Algebra Blessett. During individual episodes, each of these women will candidly discuss their music beginnings, what their fans can expect from them and what inspires them as an artist. Airing schedule includes: Primed: Bridget Kelly (2/3/14); Primed: Candice Glover (2/10/14) and Primed: Algebra Blessett (2/17/14).

Being a Diva sometimes gets labeled in a negative light, but Music Choice tackles the issue head on and recognizes the faces of Black women in music and their achievements in an original program, “MC Docs: The Diva Debate,” to air on Music Choice On Demand. Hosted by television personality and DJ, Amanda Seales, the show features artists Bridget Kelly; Grammy-award winning singer Melanie Fiona; Grammy-nominated singer Mack Wilds; Music Choice’s VP of Programming, Damon Williams; ESSENCE.com Entertainment Editor, Yolanda Sangweni; Madame Noire Deputy Editor, Brande Victorian; and Moguldom Managing Editor, Anslem Samuel Rocque. This diverse panel addresses many topics including how a Diva is defined, who are ones in training, which Divas should make a comeback, and the role of reality TV on black women in music.

Female artists have broken through glass ceilings and definitely impacted the music industry with their heavily-rotated songs on radio and their creative and ever-popular videos on Music Choice on Demand. Throughout the month of February, Music Choice has created a female-empowered video playlists of their audience favorites, including videos by Beyoncé, Ciara, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Ashanti, Keri Hilson and more. There will also be a special video tribute to Whitney Houston to commemorate the two-year mark of her untimely passing.
