In the ever changing landscape of the internet, a company’s own website
is the one constant in which they can interact with their customer base
directly and effectively. It is with that in mind that Shanachie Entertainment
proudly announces the launch of the all-new shanachie.com, coinciding
with the company’s ever-evolving new initiative in the alternative music
realm.

“It’s been a long time coming” said Shanachie Senior Vice President
of Sales & Marketing/Digital, Rick Rosenberg. “We’ve known for quite
a while that we needed and wanted to develop an enhanced site. However
we weren’t interested in just a refreshing of our current site. That
would have been easy but ineffective. With things changing so fast, we
wanted to ensure that we put forth a website that truly represents what
Shanachie is today without limiting us going forward. I believe we’ve
done just that with the new shanachie.com.”

The Shanachie marketing team of Rosenberg and Daniel Smock worked
closely with Carl Falco’s New Jersey based Falco Design and lead
designer Stephanie Bayard to build a portal that is user friendly and
reflective of the wide variety of musical genres and full length videos
that Shanachie Entertainment represents. “We met with many potential
designers in the year leading up to our decision, but when I met with
the team at Falco Design
I was impressed” said Rosenberg. “They reminded me so much of
ourselves…small with an independent spirit, yet focused and committed.
They listened to what our vision was, yet weren’t afraid to impart their
own ideas and thoughts. Our faith has been rewarded with an amazing
website that perfectly represents today’s Shanachie while still being
inclusive of our 38 year history.”

Said Carl Falco of Falco Design, “I was thrilled when Rick selected
us to design and build Shanachie’s new web site. This initiative gave us
the opportunity to utilize all of our capabilities for one project
while collaborating with some pretty cool and like-minded people.
Capturing Shanachie’s impressive history while making sure their current
releases were represented was the goal and we feel the end results
effectively accomplished that.”

One interesting facet of the new shanachie.com
isn’t so new at all but a continued philosophy for Shanachie. Unlike
many product based companies with the ability to sell to their customers
directly, Shanachie has continued to direct their web customers to
their valued e-tail partners as opposed to selling directly. “We’ve
always had such great support from our selling partners” said Rosenberg.
“We value and appreciate that support and want to do our part to ensure
that the model continues to thrive. With that in mind, every active
Shanachie title on our new site has a direct click through to listen to
and purchase at Amazon.com and iTunes.”

Shanachie was launched in 1975 in a Bronx apartment when musicologist
Richard Nevins and musician Dan Collins set out to release a few
records of traditional Irish music.
Close to four decades later, their vision and dedication has resulted
in Shanachie becoming one of the longest-running and most acclaimed
independent labels in existence.

From an upstart purveyor of traditional Irish music, Shanachie has
evolved to become one the of the most diverse labels around covering
such diverse genres as R&B,
Jazz, Reggae, Country, Blues, Folk, World Music, Jam Bands, Gospel,
Rock and beyond. Shanachie’s artists have been featured on such
esteemed programs as “The Today Show,” “Good Morning America,” “The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Conan O’Brien,” “CBS Sunday Morning” and
elsewhere. With a string of commercial Radio hits, numerous Grammy wins
and other prestigious industry recognition, Shanachie also has a video
division, with over 150 titles including acclaimed documentaries and
concert performances.

“We’re truly independent,” says Shanachie General Manager Randall
Grass, who joined the company in 1981. “No major label owns any part of
us, and we’re with truly independent distribution as well. We try to be
an independent that functions in between the major label complexes and
the more grassroots independents. We have a bigger catalog and more
resources than most Indies, but we don’t play the pop-music game — we
don’t see how many records we can put out, and hope that maybe a few
will make it. We have the ability to develop artists and be a true home
for them throughout their careers.”

Shanachie is pleased to announce its first Alternative Rock signing, Flobots,
and has plans to announce more good news shortly. In recent years, the
label has become a serious player on the contemporary R&B scene
releasing acclaimed projects with everyone from American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, super-band Mint Condition
and R&B divas Keke Wyatt and Syleena Johnson to iconic music
figures like Jody Watley, Deniece Williams and George Clinton to husband
and wife duo Kindred The Family Soul, The Floacist, Meshell
Ndegeogcello, Calvin Richardson and Jazz/R&B songbird Maysa,
Shanachie has also made major in-roads in both the Gospel and Country
music worlds.
