Sweet Soul Records’ New Album, “SOUL OVER THE RACE VOL.2,” | Coming Jan. 25th, 2012

Sweet Soul Records’ new album, “SOUL
OVER THE RACE VOL.2,” is Scheduled for Release on January 25, 2012!

“SOUL OVER THE RACE VOL.2” is the third cover album in the “SOUL OVER THE RACE” series recorded in Tokyo by Sweet Soul Records and selected Japanese artists. The concept and message of the “SOUL OVER THE RACE” series is simply that soul music transcends all races and cultures. We feel that by using local Japanese talent and the original English lyrics, this provides some uniqueness to the selected songs.

This release contains 12 tracks, including “I Wouldn’t Change a Thing” (Coke Escovedo), “I Wanna Be Where You Are” (Michael Jackson), “Funkin’ for Jamaica” (Tom Browne), “Changin’” (Sharon Ridely), “Thinking of You” (Chic), “Lucky Fellow” (Leroy Hutson), and others.

As with previous “SOUL OVER THE RACE” series releases, to find the brightest talent possible, an audition was held and four singers were selected from more than 100 participants. The purpose of the audition is to search out the best talent possible, but it also serves to raise awareness of soul music here in Japan amongst the younger crowd.

For Vol.2, Nobuo Miyamae, owner & DJ of the renown “Little Soul Café” in the hip Tokyo suburb of Shimokitazawa, was in charge of song selection while appearing musicians have played with top Japanese artists, and with international artists such as Stevie Wonder and John Legend.
