Salutes Alexander O’Neal

(Minneapolis June 2011) On July 15th Pete and Kim Rhodes will bring back the MN Black Music Awards. The ceremony takes place at 8:00PM at the Pantages Theatre. Last year the sold out event returned after a short hiatus with a bang. The ceremony turned downtown Minneapolis into a Hollywood red carpet extravaganza. The event was filled with celebrities and stellar performances and has become a tradition to the Twin Cities. This year the MBMA will do more than just pay tribute to twin city musicians and community leaders, it will benefit the North side relief efforts. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to support survivors.

Hosted by Emmy Award winning singer and actor, T. Michael Rambo, the 2011 MN Black Music Awards will salute one of R&B music’s most versatile singers Alexander O’Neal. Other recognition will be presented to Rhymesayers Entertainment, Next, The Bennett Family (Marie Graham, Ann Nesby, Jamecia and Paris Bennett), Bobby Lyle and Irv Williams. Additional awards will be presented to art industry and community leaders.

National R&B group members from Mint Condition and Next will chair a free music symposium 11:00AM at Seven Restaurant. The workshop features industry mentors discussing artist management, finances, health, production and marketing. A VIP red carpet event will open the evening at 7:00PM followed by the MBMA all-stars post party following the awards show July 15th at Seven Ultra Lounge Sky bar.

Program founder and producers Pete and Kim Rhodes said, “The 2011 MBMA program is honored to join the community to support the Northside community relief efforts and celebrate the 31st anniversary of the artists music and contributions to our arts, culture and diversity of the twin cities
music community”.

Tickets are available at the State Theatre Box Office and Ticketmaster. Visit the official MBMA website at www. blackmusicamerica.com for event schedule and information.
