Pump Aid and Live Earth
In 2010 Pump Aid and Live Earth are joining forces to help create the biggest single fundraising effort to combat the global water crisis in history. Over 50 countries right across the globe will help raise money and awareness on Sunday 18th April, coming together to help change the shocking statistics and disturbing effects of the global water crisis. Nearly 1 billion people don’t have access to clean water which kills nearly 5,000 children every day. At any one time over half of the hospital beds in Africa are occupied by those suffering from diarrhea, something so easy and cheap to avoid.
The 6K Dow Live Earth Run for Water events will take place in a number of cities across the world including Los Angeles and London, with some of the profits coming directly to Pump Aid. International music events will follow the fundraising efforts and musicians, including Corinne Bailey Rae, have already signed up and pledged their support.
You can help ease the global water crisis with Pump Aid by donating to Pump Aid and/or by signing up to one of the global Dow Live Earth Run for Water Events. For more information on Pump Aid or Live Earth visit www.pumpaid.org or www.liveearth.org
Corinne Bailey Rae, Pump Aid Ambassador
Corinne has been a Goodwill Ambassador for Pump Aid since 2007. She is very passionate about the issues of water and sanitation and has spoken in the media about why she is helping to raise the awareness about the work of Pump Aid and the obstacles people are facing without access to water and sanitation.
Corinne visited a Pump Aid project in Malawi in 2007. She spent time with the Pump Aid team assisting them and the community in building an Elephant Toilet. She also met members of the community who Pump Aid have worked with, hearing about the issues that they face and how technologies such as the Elephant Pump and Elephant Toilet have improved their health, hygiene and living conditions for the better.
Corinne has already shown fantastic support for Pump Aid and continues to make an effort to raise the awareness on the issues of water and sanitation. More recently, she has donated the profits of recent live concerts on both sides of the Atlantic.
“As goodwill ambassador for the charity Pump Aid I’ve seen at firsthand how a relatively small amount of money can transform the lives of rural communities in Africa. Just £5 can give one child water for life, simply by donating money to get this music download you are making an incredible difference. There are so many ways that you can support Pump Aid, you can download this track, get involved in Live Earth or donate whatever you can every month to help combat the global water crisis. We think of water as such a frivolous commodity but 1 billion people don’t have access to it and 5,000 children die every day because they are forced to drink dirty water. Let’s stop forcing children to drink contaminated water and help Pump Aid build more Elephant Pumps across Africa.”
With nearly 1 billion people without access to clean water and a further 2.5 billion without adequate sanitary provisions, we know that our approach has the potential to solve these problems for more people, in more countries, right across the world.
