Gail Jhonson – Pearls

Pianist Gail Jhonson Releases Pearls with nuGroove

Diamonds aren’t always a girl’s best friend…sometimes she’d rather shower herself in a whole sea of rare gems.

It’s not easy to pick just one favorite song for a pianist who has traveled the world and played before thousands.  A Berklee graduate and astute educator, Jhonson hit the contemporary jazz scene over 17 years ago as the musical director for guitarist Norman Brown.  In her sophomore release, Pearls, pianist/vocalist Gail Jhonson treats listeners to luxurious song arrangements with exceptional guest appearances by Norman Brown, Nelson Braxton, Marion Meadows and Paul Brown.

Currently gearing up for Norman Brown’s fourth Summer Storm tour (featuring Chante Moore, Paul Taylor and Alex Bugnon), where she’ll once again serve as musical director, Jhonson has lived her dreams making music with some of the biggest names in the business.

“My new CD, “PEARLS” it truly is a gem!  It is a collection of songs I’ve written from my heart, with the help of some very respected artists’ in the business.  With the exposure by recording label, nuGroove Records, it’s sure to gain national attention and please jazz listeners in a special way,” said Jhonson.

Enthusiastic about jazz education and opportunities for women, Jhonson serves as a positive role model for young fans.  “I’ve been waiting a long time for this opportunity and now that it’s finally here I’m just tickled pink; that is… JAZZ IN PINK!  I plan to be an inspiration to all those who have dreams & hope that they are fulfilled.  I’m a tried & tested example of how perseverance and faith can carry you a long way.  I’ve traveled around the world and I love what I do…playing the piano.  So to all the moms out there, please know that the piano lessons will pay off.  To all the dads…it’s ok to let your daughters play jazz!  It hasn’t been easy in this male-dominated business, but practice, tenacity and a smile definitely softens the grind.  I hope “Pearls” will give listeners a welcome new sound…smooth jazz with a feminine touch,” she said.
