Soulganic to Release Fifth Studio Album Phosphene—A Sonic Exploration of the Unseen

Charlotte, NC — After nearly two decades of sonic innovation, Soulganic returns with their much anticipated fifth studio album, Phosphene. The album – which takes its name from the phenomenon where individuals perceive light without visual stimulus – is a journey through soundscapes that explore the unseen, the unheard, and the unknown.

Phosphene will be available for exclusive early access on Bandcamp on October 25, 2024, before launching on all streaming platforms on November 15, 2024.

In an album that melds their signature blend of left of center live band soul, funk, jazz, and rock influences, Soulganic ventures into new territory as a trio, exploring themes of perception, discovery, and enlightenment. Each track offers listeners a raw and immersive experience, where a minimal approach to layered rhythms, intricate melodies, soulful lyrics, and mesmerizing beats evoke the sensation of “seeing the unseen.”

A landmark collaboration with noted producer and engineer Scott Slagle—who worked with the band on their debut album nearly 20 years ago—Phosphene marks a full-circle moment for the group. Slagle’s return brings with it a refined sound, merging the raw energy of Soulganic’s early days with the musical maturity and vision they’ve cultivated over the years.

“We wanted to create an album that wasn’t just heard, but felt—an experience where the music helps you perceive beyond the physical world,” said lead vocalist and bassist Anthony Rodriguez. “With Phosphene, we’re inviting listeners to experience the illumination of the unseen aspects of our lives—the emotions, thoughts, and experiences that often go unobserved or unsaid.”

Soulganic has been pushing the boundaries of soul music since their formation in 2005, and Phosphene is no exception. With an evolving yet distinctly grounded sound, the band  continues to create music that borrows liberally from the past, but but with modern yet timeless themes.
