Guitarist Frank Gambale and Singer BOCA Brings Us New CD “Soulmine” | Available NOW
Guitarist Frank Gambale and Sultry Vocalist BOCA releases “Soulmine” | Available NOW!
When something emerges from the soul of an
artist, it’s honest, personal and meaningful. It is more than a passion
project. For Grammy winning guitar innovator Frank Gambale (www.frankgambalesoulmine.com),
his forthcoming album, “Soulmine,” is a soul-realized endeavor that has
ruminated in his consciousness for 30 years. The maverick musician
whom jazz giant Chick Corea called “one of the most incredible guitarists on the planet” found the missing piece when he met and married his soulmate, BOCA.
She provides the sultry vocals and the pair co-wrote and co-produced
the ten-song collection of jazzy adult pop tunes that will be released
May 22nd.
Best known for groundbreaking instrumental recordings and extraordinary live performances with jazz fusion icons such as Corea, Billy Cobham and Return To Forever
(with Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White and Jean-Luc Ponty), Gambale
returns to his roots by collaborating with a vocalist on his 20th
solo album. He maintains lofty standards by masterfully performing
their well-crafted songs with an accomplished rhythm section comprised
of five-time Grammy winning bassist Victor Wooten and drummer Joel Taylor. Although Gambale plays most of the keyboards on “Soulmine,” Otmaro Ruiz (piano) and Brian Auger make guest appearances (organ).
“Love
Set Me Free” opens “Soulmine” with a sophisticated excursion featuring
complex changes and astute rhythms that provide the backdrop for BOCA’s
soaring vocals and Gambale’s cool-toned jazz guitar riffs. Lyrically,
the messages throughout the record inspire, uplift and encourage with
the hopeful rock fusion jam “Live Your Dream” serving as a fitting
example. The tautly constructed “All In The Game Of Life” is played on a
multilayered futuristic sonicscape. Borrowing a bit from ska, the
bouncy “Be The Change” promulgates Gandhi’s message in song.
Fusion-flavored “Sun Will Shine” provides the perfect light for
Gambale’s guitar and BOCA’s voice to intertwine gracefully before the
guitarist rips a mid-song solo with blistering speed and precision. The
first radio single is the sensual “Forbidden Kiss” for which
award-winning director Nigel Dick (Guns ‘n Roses, Britney Spears, Oasis, Cher) shot an enticing video (see YouTube video below).
As he does on “Keep Leadin’ Me On,” Gambale has an intuitive ability to
deploy scorching rock guitar licks on even the gentlest tracks without
ever disturbing the peace. “Saved Me From Myself” is a candid
confessional over a chill, mid-tempo groove. An unabashedly amorous
declaration, “Enchanted Love” rouses while romancing. The expansive
“Open Your Mind” provides a vast stratosphere for Gambale’s guitar to
explore the outer limits with unharnessed emotion.
A
native of Canberra, Australia, Gambale pioneered and popularized two
imaginative guitar playing techniques – Sweep Picking Technique
(commonly known as Sweeping) and the Gambale Tuning method – that
revolutionized the capabilities of the instrument. When not gigging or
recording, he enjoys sharing his extensive knowledge as a respected
educator, an author of numerous instructional books and via popular
DVDs. Gambale and BOCA plan to tour globally in support of “Soulmine.
