Playboy Jazz Launches Free Community Concert Series In Beverly Hills (2008)
PLAYBOY JAZZ FESTIVAL LAUNCHES FREE COMMUNITY CONCERT SERIES WITH LAVAY SMITH AND HER HOT SKILLET LICKERS AND
BOBBY RODRIGUEZ – LATINJAZZ
SUNDAY, MAY 4TH IN BEVERLY HILLS
The Playboy Jazz Festival will launch its free community concert series with one of the top swing and jump blues bands in the country, Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, as well as Bobby Rodriguez LatinJazz at the Beverly Hills Civic Center Plaza on Sunday, May 4th at 3:00 p.m.
Smith’s 8 piece group is known for their large repertoire of classics by Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Duke Ellington, as well as a variety of musical styles including swing, bebop, salsa, and New Orleans R&B. Grammy nominated trumpet and bandleader Bobby Rodriguez will also perform, leading a group combing the best of traditional Latin music with an exciting, contemporary sound. The Beverly Hills Civic Center Plaza is located at 450 North Rexford Drive, between Santa Monica Blvd and Burton Way.
Sponsored by the Playboy Jazz Festival, the concert is the first in the acclaimed series of free community events held in conjunction with the upcoming 30th anniversary Playboy Jazz Festival, set for Sat. & Sun., June 14th & 15th at the world renowned Hollywood Bowl.
Food & refreshments will be available for purchase to the public. Glass containers, alcoholic beverages and audio/video recorders are not permitted. Two free hours of parking are available at the Civic Center parking structure, adjacent to the Beverly Hills Public Library.
