Stanley Crouch To Present The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation’s Satchmo™ Award To NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Heath
At the Organization’s Celebration in Harlem at the Historic Alhambra Ballroom on October 28th

New York, NY (October 4, 2016) – The Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation presents the SATCHMO™ Award to saxophonist and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, MR. JIMMY HEATH. This is the 6th conferring of the award; and the 2nd Annual Satchmo™ Awards Celebration. On October 28th we are returning to the historic Alhambra Ballroom in Harlem, where big bands, swing dancers, and jazz vocalists once reigned supreme; and that night the dancers will swing to The Jimmy Heath Big Band!

The Satchmo™ Award represents a tribute to the life and legacy of LOUIS ARMSTRONG’S passion for jazz and excellence matched only by his joyous love of life and children. The recipients of The Satchmo™ Award are selected for their important and lasting contributions in the world of music and jazz education. The recipients reflect the spirit of Louis Armstrong and his inspiring belief in the power of the language of music, essential in making a wonderful world.

In making this announcement Stanley Crouch, President LAEF and David Chevan, Chairperson LAEF SATCHMO Award released this joint statement:

“Jimmy Heath has been a leader in the presentation, preservation, promotion and propagation of jazz his entire adult life. Throughout his musical career, he has entertained and inspired hundreds of thousands of jazz enthusiasts; and two of his performing students went on to place first and second in the prestigious Thelonius Monk Competition. We are proud to pay tribute to Jimmy Heath for his life-time commitment to America’s classical music jazz as a performer, composer, arranger, band leader and, as an educator — with the 2016 SATCHMO™ Award.”

On Friday October 28th 8:00-10:00PM at the Alhambra Ballroom, 2116 Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Blvd. LAEF will present the Satchmo™ Award to Mr. Heath.
