Music icon Mavis Staples releases some tracks from her upcoming 14th solo album, Sad & Beautiful World

As one of music’s indescribable treasures, Mavis Staples would be an automatic for an encyclopedia of influential persons in the arts during the 20th and 21st century. Though she built her career with the legendary gospel family, The Staples Singers, Mavis’ keen abilities to fully invest in any song no matter what the genre has earned the ears from her peers, collaborators and producers. The much decorated 86 years-young vocalist who earned several Hall of Fame inductions and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award is about to unveil her 14th full-length project entitled Sad & Beautiful (Anti-), including songs by Curtis Mayfield and Frank Ocean and contributions from two of Mavis’ past partnerships Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt.

Producer/multi instrumentalist Brad Cook pays special attention to Mavis’ pensive alto voice by utilizing backing musicians and singers which carry their special beauty in honoring her vocal integrity. A few tracks have been made available on a sneak peak that bridges a unique soundtrack encompassing soul, country and folk. “Beautiful Strangers,” chosen as the first single for Sad & Beautiful World, illustrates how one human can be remembered for a lifetime navigating the chaos. Then the title track balances the range of emotions from high to low. Finally, Mavis slips her trademark husky sound on “Godsend,” co-written and recorded by Ocean, where the dedication of one’s faithfulness radiates genuine spiritual love.
