Boney James blends his 2 hit holiday recordings from the past and a brand new studio track into the compilation, ‘Tis The Season

With 19 full-length albums in counting, Boney James, the multi Grammy nominated and the first artist charting twenty #1 singles on Billboards’ Smooth Jazz Charts, treats listeners to a holiday collection full of jazzy joy and memorable vocal performances. Album #20 – ‘Tis The Season (Concord Records) – combines Funky Christmas from 1996 and 2007’s Christmas Present, as James drops fresh arrangements representing a sassy pop delight, a neo soul reinvention, a track from a classic animated holiday TV special, and a refreshing take on a whimsical Christmas song.

It’s difficult to choose what the memorable highlights are, but here are a few choices. James’s new recording of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” brings the intimacy of a contemporary jazz quartet. “Jingle Bells” transforms into a jolly interaction and climatic exchange with percussionist Paulinho Da Costa. From the mid-sixties Charlie Brown Christmas Special, “Skating” centers on James’ agile saxophone lead. On the vocal side, Chante Moore lends a spirited interpretation of Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby,” while “Merry Christmas Baby” is an enticing neo soul experience from Angie Stone.
