Selector A Releases ‘Reggae Loves Africa Vol. 2’ Compilation

The 10-track project highlights reggae’s dialogue with African history, culture, and struggle

Reggae producer Eisaku “Selector A” Yamaguchi has released Reggae Loves Africa, Vol. 2, a new compilation of ten reggae tracks that reflect Nelson Mandela’s vision for Africa, honoring both the future he fought for and the values he championed. The album, out now via VP Records, arrived on July 18 in recognition of Nelson Mandela International Day and follows the first Reggae Loves Africa compilation, released in 2014.

The collection features songs by Buju Banton, Sizzla, Luciano, Culture, and others. According to Selector A, the project is inspired by Mandela’s legacy of human dignity, resilience, and social justice, and highlights not only recent developments on the continent but also reggae’s historical role in raising awareness about apartheid and global inequality.

Born in Kanagawa, Japan, Selector A developed an early passion for reggae before relocating to New York in the 1990s. Since then, he’s produced a series of projects focused on reggae’s ability to document cultural narratives and promote solidarity.

Reggae Loves Africa, Vol. 2 is the latest entry in Selector A’s series of themed reggae anthologies, which have included Reggae Loves Jah, Reggae Loves Rasta, Reggae Loves Romance, and Reggae Loves Unity.

Richard Lue, VP Records’ Senior Director of Marketing, who has been involved with the Reggae Loves… series since its inception in 2014, emphasized the deeper impact of the project. “This series speaks to the African diaspora and people across the Continent,” said Lue. “It’s always been about showing how the music is linked to Africa, and keeping that connection visible and part of the conversation.”

Reggae Loves Africa Vol. 2 is available now on all major streaming platforms.
