ABOUT MONIFAH:

She is a born New York native from East Harlem, and a former graduate of the famed New York’s F.H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. She stared in off-Broadway shows with the likes of such actor’s as Golden Globe winner® James Earl Jones and Academy Award® winning actor Morgan Freeman. She tap-danced with the late great Gregory Hines and Savion Glover. Monifah has sung “oohs” and “ahhs” around the world for reggae king, Maxi Priest, and served as the studio inspiration for the likes of Heavy D and Vincent Herbert (of Vince & Tamar fame).

With that talent behind her, Monifah burst onto the R&B music scene underneath the wings of the late Heavy D. She signed a contract with MCA/Uptown Records then in 1996, she released her self-titled album Monifah: Moods…Moments. With that album – it featured songs like the double platinum single “I Miss You (Come Back Home)” and then followed up with the singles “You” and “You Don’t Have To Love Me” which also became R&B hits for her.

Then in 1998, Monifah returned back to the studio for her second album, Mo’hogany, which gave us singles like “Bad Girl, “Suga, Suga” but it was her Top Ten R&B single “Touch It”, which also became her first crossover hit peaking at #1 for four consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play charts. Which was her biggest album to date.

In 2000 Monifah transitioned over to Universal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Records) Records, where her third album Home (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_(Monifah_album)), which was co-produced by Grammy Award ® wining famed producer Teddy Riley contained singles; “I Can Tell”, “Brown Eyes” and “Fairytales.” Which helped make this album certified RIAA® Gold.

She went back to her theater roots in 2003 and she played a supporting role in Michael Baisden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Baisden)’s “Men Cry In the Dark “stage play, with fellow actors Richard Roundtree and Allen Payne, and R&B artist Christopher Williams.
